Almond Fragrance: A treasured tea from the Phoenix Mountain area of Chaozhou, Guangdong, China, renowned for its distinctive almond aroma. This tea is known as “Juduozai” (meaning “serrated leaves”) because of the prominent serrations along the edges of the tea leaves, and is also called “Almond Fragrance”. The “Juduozai” leaves are tender and small when picked during the spring tea season. The harvesting and processing require meticulous effort and are costly, but that is precisely why the finished tea presents with slender, refined strips and an elegant appearance. The tea soup is exceptionally fresh and well-loved by many tea enthusiasts.
Quality Characteristics
Its strips are tightly rolled and very slender—a distinguishing feature. The color is a light yellow-brown with a glossy sheen. The inner quality brings a high, clear fragrance with pure and lasting notes of almond and honey. The liquor is a bright orange-yellow, highly resistant to steeping, with an even, glossy leaf base rimmed in red.
Personal Experience
Tasting Almond Fragrance Dancong for the first time: the tea liquor is very soothing as it enters the mouth. The aroma released is not the kind that will immediately captivate you at first sniff (for friends from the South, if you have ever eaten boiled water chestnut, perhaps you’ll find the fresh scent upon lifting the pot lid somewhat familiar). It’s like meeting a modest-looking yet graceful and well-read lady—her charm is discovered only through patient appreciation, not by appearance.
[Highlight] After a second steep of Almond Fragrance Dancong, the liquor becomes richer, mellow, thick, and smooth, leaving a lasting tingling and refreshing sweetness at the back of the throat, with a cool lingering sensation. There is a subtle “almond” flavor reminiscent of traditional herbal medicine. The slight bitterness, blended with unique fragrance, is not flamboyant but rather distinctively individualistic, making you deeply enamored and eager for a second, third cup... until you’re fully satisfied.
